The Neobrutal Chess Set is a functional chess set inspired by Brutalist architecture: raw materials, clean lines, and bold monolithic forms. Each piece is designed as a small building — the set works as a game and as an object, a tribute to the architectural movement it borrows its name from.
Kickstarter Success and Future Plans
The set was funded through a Kickstarter campaign as part of Kickstarter’s Make 100 initiative, which put it into production and into people’s homes. It remains one of my favorite examples of taking a computational design all the way to a shipped physical product.
